Commentary
He meant by the sin: the killing by the Copt. It was said: he was the baker of Pharaoh and his name was Fatoon. This means: they have a burden of sin upon me, which is the retribution for that killing. I fear that they will kill me for it, so the addition was omitted. Or he referred to the burden of the sin as a sin, just as the punishment for an evil deed is called an evil deed. If you say: I have rejected that these three are reasons, and I have made them a preparation for the excuse in what he sought, what do you say about this fourth? I say: this is a defense against the anticipated calamity. It is different from being killed before delivering the message; how could it be a reason? The evidence for this is what comes after it regarding the word of deterrence, and the promise of protection and defense.
