Commentary
If you say: How is it permissible to separate between 'if not' and 'you said'? I say: The circumstances have a status, which is their descending from things to the status of themselves due to their occurrence in them and that they do not detach from them. Therefore, what is not permissible in others is permissible in them.
If you say: What is the benefit of presenting the circumstance so that a separation occurs? I say: The benefit in it is to indicate that it was obligatory upon them to avoid, as soon as they heard the slander, to speak of it. Since the mention of the time is more important, it must be presented. If you say: What is the meaning of 'to be', and the speech without it is ambiguous?
I say: Its meaning is similar to 'it is necessary', and it is correct to say: What is necessary for us to speak of this? And what is permissible for us. And the like:
What is not for me to say what is not my right. And 'Subhanaka' is for astonishment at the greatness of the matter.
If I say: Why is it permissible for the wife of the Prophet to be a disbeliever like the wife of Noah and Lot, and it is not permissible for her to be immoral, and her disbelief is not astonishing while her immorality is? I say: Because the prophets are sent to the disbelievers to invite them and to seek their favor. The disbelief of the wife is not a deterrent nor a repellent, unlike immorality.
If you say: What is the meaning of astonishment in the word of glorification? I say: The origin of that is to glorify Allah upon seeing the astonishing of His creations, then it became widespread until it was used for everything that is astonishing or to exalt Allah from the possibility that the sanctity of His Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, is immoral.
If you say: How is it permissible for the wife of the Prophet to be a disbeliever like the wife of Noah and Lot, and it is not permissible for her to be immoral? I say: Because the prophets are sent to the disbelievers to invite them and to seek their favor, so it is necessary that there be nothing that repels them from them, and disbelief was not something that repelled them. As for immorality, it is one of the greatest repulsions.
