Commentary
That is, answer me about what I have inquired of you. If you have knowledge of it, there is a belittlement of them and a possibility of their extreme ignorance regarding religions: that they would be ignorant of such a clear and evident matter. And it has been read: 'tadhkaroon', with the second 'ta' omitted. Its meaning is: Do you not remember so that you may know that the One who created the earth and what is in it, was capable of resurrecting creation, and is deserving that none of His creation should associate with Him in lordship. The first has been read with the 'lam' only. The last two have been read with the 'lam', and it is thus in the Mushafs of the people of the two holy places, Kufa, and Sham, and without the 'lam', and it is thus in the Mushafs of the people of Basra. So, with the 'lam' is according to the meaning, because your saying 'from his Lord' and 'to whom' is in one meaning, and without the 'lam' is according to the wording. It is permissible to read the first without the 'lam', but it has not been established in the narration. 'Do you not fear?' Do you not fear Him, so do not associate with Him and disobey His messengers. I have granted so-and-so to so-and-so: if I assisted him from it and prevented him, meaning: He assists whom He wills from whom He wills, and no one assists anyone from Him. 'You are deceived' means you are misled from His oneness and obedience. And the deceiver is Satan and desires.
