58Those who left their homeland in the way of Allah, then were slain or died, Allah will certainly give them a good provision, and surely, Allah is the best provider. 59He will definitely admit them to an entrance they will be pleased with, and Allah is surely All-Knowing, Forbearing.

Commentary

When the emigrants were gathered in the cause of Allah, He equalized them in the appointment. He meant that those who died among them would receive the same as those who were killed, as a favor and kindness from Him. And Allah is aware of the ranks of the workers and the degrees of their deserving. He is forbearing towards the negligence of those who neglect, by His grace and generosity. It is narrated that groups of the companions of the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we know what Allah has given to those who were killed, and we are striving with you just as they strove. What will we have if we die with you?' So Allah revealed these two verses.
