Commentary
It is said: It was revealed concerning al-Nadr ibn al-Harith, who was a contentious person. He said: The angels are the daughters of Allah, and the Qur'an is the legends of the ancients. Allah is not able to revive those who have decayed and turned to dust. This is general for all who engage in argumentation regarding what is permissible for Allah and what is not permissible of attributes and actions. They do not refer to knowledge nor do they bite into it with a decisive tooth. There is no following of proof nor adherence to fairness. They strike blindly, not distinguishing between truth and falsehood, and they follow in that the steps of every rebellious devil. It is known from their state and has become clear that whoever takes them as a protector, their guardianship bears no fruit except for leading them astray from the path of Paradise and guiding them to Hellfire. I do not see the leaders of the people of desires, and innovations, and the literalists who claim to be imams in the religion of Allah, except that they are all included under this in a primary way. Rather, they are the most misleading of devils and the most obstructive to the path of truth, as they have documented misguidance and taught it to their followers as if they mixed it with their flesh and blood. And it is them that the saying refers to:
'O Lord, I am followed in steps among my people... A path of salvation is clear among them.'
If only they had read in the tablet what was written therein about the crookedness in their way, they would have cried out.
O Allah, keep us steadfast on the correct belief that You are pleased with for Your angels in Your heavens, and Your prophets on Your earth, and admit us by Your mercy among Your righteous servants. And the writing upon it is like, meaning: as if it was written to mislead those who take it as a protector and numbered with it for its appearance in their state. And it has been read: 'that he', so 'that he' with an open or closed vowel. The one who opened it did so because the first is the subject that wrote, and the second is an addition to it. And the one who closed it did so to narrate the written as it is, as if it was written this saying, as you say: 'I wrote: Indeed, Allah is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy.' Or on the assumption: it was said. Or on the basis that it was written in the meaning of the saying.
