Commentary

He has distinguished the believers by repelling [evil] from them and supporting them, as He said, "Indeed, We will support Our messengers and those who believe." And He said, "Indeed, they are the ones who will be supported." And He said, "And another [victory] that you love: support from Allah and a near victory." And He made the reason for that because He does not love their opposites: the treacherous disbelievers who betray Allah and the Messenger and betray their trusts and deny the blessings of Allah and belittle them. [The saying "and belittle them" means: they regard them as insignificant.] And whoever reads "He defends" means he exaggerates in repelling [evil] from them, just as one exaggerates in competing, because the action of competing comes stronger and more impactful.
