Commentary
The removal of dirt: trimming the mustache, cutting the nails, plucking the armpits, and shaving the pubic hair. The dirt refers to filth, so the intended meaning is the removal of dirt. And it was read: 'And let them fulfill' with a strong emphasis on the letter 'fa' their vows, which are the obligations of their pilgrimage, or what they might vow of good deeds during their pilgrimage. And let them perform the Tawaf of Ifadah, which is the Tawaf of visitation that is one of the pillars of Hajj, and through it, the complete release from the state of Ihram occurs. It was said to be the Tawaf of the farewell, which is the farewell Tawaf. The ancient house is the first house established for mankind, according to Al-Hasan. And from Qatadah: it was freed from tyrants; how many tyrants approached it to demolish it, but Allah prevented them. And from Mujahid: it was never owned. And from him: it was freed from drowning. And it was said to be a noble house, from their saying: the freed horses and birds. If you say: the pilgrims have taken control of it, so it was not prevented. I say: they did not intend to take control of the house, rather Ibn Al-Zubair fortified himself with it, so he devised a plan to expel them and then rebuilt it. And when Abraha intended to take control of it, he did to it what he did.
