Commentary
This is a statement that has been abbreviated. The meaning is that Allah supports His Messenger in this world and the Hereafter. So whoever among his envious ones and enemies thinks that Allah will act contrary to that and hopes that he will achieve his desire, let him exhaust his efforts and strive to remove what angers him. Let him do what he does, to the extent that he stretches a rope to the sky of his house and chokes himself. Let him consider and imagine in himself that if he does that, will it nullify the support of Allah that angers him? And it is called choking because the choked person cuts himself off by blocking his passages. From this, it is said that choking is cutting. And his action is called plotting because he has placed it in the position of plotting, where he could not do otherwise. Or as a means of mockery, because he did not plot against his envied one, but rather plotted against himself. The intended meaning is that he has in his hand only what does not lead to what angers him. It is said: let him extend a rope to the sky of the canopy. And let him climb upon it to cut off the revelation or bring it down upon him. It is said that there were some Muslims who, due to their intense anger and rage against the polytheists, were impatient for what Allah had promised His Messenger regarding victory. And others among the polytheists wanted to follow him and feared that his matter would not be established. So it was revealed. And victory has been interpreted as provision. It is said that its meaning is that provisions are in the hands of Allah and cannot be attained except by His will. And the servant must be content with His division. So whoever thinks that Allah is not his provider and does not have patience and submission, let him reach the utmost despair, which is choking, for that will not change the division nor return him as one who is provided for.
