Commentary
The saying: It is the source of خطب (khatb) the matter if he seeks it. So when it is said to someone who does something: What is your خطب (khatb)? Its meaning is: What do you seek it for? It was read: بَصُرْتُ بِما لَمْ يَبْصُرُوا بِهِ (I have seen what they did not see) with a kasra. The well-known reading is with a damma. And it was also read: تبصروا به (you see it) with a ت (ta). And the saying of Al-Nasafi is: And with a ت (ta) is Hamza and Al-A'in, and perhaps it was omitted here by mistake from the transcriber, so it should be clarified. (A) The meaning is: I have knowledge of what you did not know, and I have perceived what you did not perceive. Al-Hasan read: قَبْضَةً (a handful) with a damma on the qaf, and it is the name of what is seized, like الغرفة (the room) and المضغة (the morsel). As for القبضة (the handful), it is the instance of seizing, and its application to the seized is from naming the object by the source, like ضرب (the strike) of the prince. He also read: فقبصت قبصة (and I seized a handful), with a صاد (sad) that is unmarked. The ضاد (dad) is with the entire hand, and the صاد (sad) is with the tips of the fingers. Similar to them are الخضم (the chewing) and القضم (the nibbling): الخاء (kha) with the entire mouth, and the قاف (qaf) with its front. Ibn Mas'ud read: من أثر فرس الرسول (from the trace of the horse of the Messenger). If you say: Why did he call him the Messenger and not Gabriel or the Holy Spirit? I say: When the time for going to the mountain came, Allah sent to Moses Gabriel riding the saddle of the horse of life to take him, so the Samaritan saw him and said: This has a matter, so he seized a handful from the soil of his place. When Moses asked him about his story, he said: I seized from the trace of the horse sent to you on the day of the appointed time, and perhaps he did not know that it was Gabriel.
