Therefore, mentioning the effect serves as evidence for the cause, as if it were said: Be strong in resolve, firm in character, so that it does not appear to those who disbelieve in the resurrection that you are inclined to deter them from what you are upon. This means that those who do not believe in the Hereafter are a vast multitude, for there is nothing more certain for the disbelievers, nor is there anything they deny more vehemently than the resurrection. So, do not be intimidated by the multitude of their ranks or the greatness of their numbers, and do not let the majority lead you astray. Know that even if they are numerous, their guidance in what they are upon is mere desire and following it, not proof and contemplation. In this, there is a great encouragement to act upon evidence, a strong warning against imitation, and a caution that destruction and ruin accompany imitation and its people.
