Commentary
And command your family to pray. This means that you should engage with your family in the worship of Allah and prayer. And seek help through it in your needs, and do not worry about provision and livelihood. Indeed, your provision is sufficient from Us, and We are the Providers for you. We do not ask you to provide for yourself or your family, so focus your mind on the matter of the Hereafter. In this regard, the saying of the people is: whoever engages in the work of Allah, Allah is in his work. And from Urwah ibn al-Zubair, he would read 'And do not extend your eyes...' when he saw what was with the rulers, then he would call out, 'Prayer, prayer, may Allah have mercy on you.' And from Bakr ibn Abdullah al-Muzani, when his family faced need, he would say: 'Get up and pray. This is what Allah commanded His Messenger,' then he would recite this verse.
