Al-Dank: a source that is equal in description for both masculine and feminine. It has been recited as DANKAN on the pattern of Fa'la. The meaning of this is that with religion there is submission, contentment, and reliance on Allah and His decree. Therefore, its companion spends what he has been provided with ease and generosity, and he lives a pleasant life, as Allah, the Exalted, said: 'So We will surely give him a good life.' The one who turns away from religion is overtaken by greed, which continuously drives him to seek more of this world. He is dominated by stinginess, which closes his hand from spending. Thus, his life is difficult and his condition is dark. As some Sufis said: 'No one turns away from the remembrance of his Lord except that his time becomes darkened and his provision becomes confused.' Among the disbelievers, there are those upon whom Allah has decreed humiliation and poverty due to their disbelief. Allah, the Exalted, said: 'And humiliation and poverty were struck upon them, and they returned with anger from Allah. That is because they used to disbelieve in the signs of Allah.' He also said: 'And if they had upheld the Torah and the Gospel and what was revealed to them from their Lord, they would have eaten from above them and from beneath their feet.' And He said: 'And if the people of the villages had believed and been conscious of Allah, We would have opened up to them blessings from the heavens and the earth.' And He said: 'Seek forgiveness from your Lord; indeed, He is Most Forgiving. He will send the heavens upon you in showers.' And He said: 'And if they had remained steadfast on the right path, We would have given them abundant water to drink.' Al-Hasan said: 'It is the thorny plant and the bitter tree in the Fire.' And from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri: 'The punishment of the grave.' It has been recited: 'And We will gather him' with a jussive form, as an addition to the position of 'Indeed, he has a difficult life,' because it is the response to the condition. It has also been recited: 'And We gather him,' with the letter 'h' being silent in the form of a pause. This is similar to His saying: 'And We will gather them on the Day of Resurrection on their faces, blind, mute, and deaf.' Just as the interpretation of blindness is like that, meaning: 'You have done the same.' Then it was explained that Our signs came to you clear and illuminating, yet you did not look at them with the eye of consideration nor did you reflect. You turned away from them and became blind to them. Thus, today We leave you in your blindness and do not remove the veil from your eyes.
