The blowing is attributed to the one who commands in the reading: 'We blow,' with the noon. Or because the angels who are close to Allah and Israfil are of the rank they hold with the Lord of Glory, it is appropriate for their honor before Him and their closeness to Him that what they undertake is attributed to His essence, glorified and exalted is He. And it was read: 'He blows,' in the form of what has not been named its doer. And 'He blows' and 'He gathers' are read with the open yā, referring to the unseen and the pronoun being for Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, or for Israfil, peace be upon him. As for 'He gathers the criminals,' it was not read except by Al-Hasan.

And it was read in 'the horns' with the open wāw, plural of 'horn.' And in 'the horns' there are two opinions: the first is that it means 'the horns' and this reading indicates it. The second is that it means 'the century.' It was said regarding 'the blue' that there are two opinions: the first is that blue is the most hated color of the eyes to the Arabs because the Romans are their enemies and they have blue eyes, and that is why they said in the description of the enemy:

'Black of liver, tawny of beard, blue-eyed.' The second is that it refers to blindness, because the pupil of one who loses the light of his sight turns blue. They whisper to each other due to what fills their hearts of terror and horror, they wish their time spent in the world were shorter: either because of what they witness of the hardships that remind them of the days of ease and joy, and they regret them and describe them as short because the days of joy are short, or because they have passed from them and are finished, and what has gone, even if its duration is long, is short due to its end. From this is the saying of Abdullah ibn Al-Mu'tazz under 'May Allah prolong your life': 'Suffice it to say that the end is short.' Or it is due to their longing for the Hereafter, which is eternal, they wish to compare their lifespan in the world to it. And it is said that the duration of its people in it is short compared to their duration in the Hereafter. Allah has favored the saying of those who argue most strongly among them in His saying: 'When the most exemplary of them says, 'How long did you remain?' 'We remained a day or part of a day. Ask the enumerators.' And it was said that what is meant is their duration in the graves. This is supported by His saying, glorified and exalted is He: 'And on the Day the Hour rises, the criminals will swear they did not remain except for an hour. Thus they were deluded.' And those who were given knowledge and faith will say, 'Indeed, you remained in the Book of Allah until the Day of Resurrection.'
