Do you hope that the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, and the believers will believe you, that they will bring forth faith for the sake of your call and respond to you? As His saying goes: (So Lot believed him), meaning the Jews. And there was a group among those who preceded them who heard the words of Allah, which they recited from the Torah, then they distorted it as they distorted the description of the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, and the verse of stoning. It is said that there were some among the seventy chosen ones who heard the words of Allah when He spoke to Musa at the mountain and what He commanded and prohibited. Then they said: We heard Allah say at the end: If you can do these things, then do them, and if you wish, do not do them, and there is no harm. And it was read: Allah spoke, after they understood it, after they comprehended it and grasped it with their minds, and they had no doubt about its truth, while they knew that they were lying and fabricating. The meaning is: If these disbelievers distorted it, they have a precedent in that. And when they meet, meaning the Jews, their hypocrites say: We believe that you are upon the truth, and that Muhammad is the Messenger who was given glad tidings. And when some of them who did not hypocrite meet with some of those who did hypocrite, they say, reproaching them: Do you inform them of what Allah has opened to you, what He has made clear to you in the Torah about the description of Muhammad? Or the hypocrites said to their followers, seeing them steadfast in their religion: Do you inform them, denying them the opportunity to open something in their book, so they hypocrite the believers and hypocrite the Jews to argue with you before your Lord, to argue against you with what your Lord has revealed in His Book. They made their argument with it, and their saying is in your Book like this an argument before Allah. Do you not see that you say: It is in the Book of Allah like this? And it is with Allah like this, meaning one and the same. He knows all that they conceal and all that they declare, including their concealing disbelief and declaring faith.
