Commentary

The lasting good deeds are the acts of goodness whose fruits remain for a person, while all that his soul aspires to of worldly gains perishes. It is said that they are the five prayers. It is also said: 'Subhanallah' (Glorified is Allah), 'Alhamdulillah' (All praise is for Allah), 'La ilaha illallah' (There is no deity but Allah), and 'Allahu Akbar' (Allah is the Greatest). And from Qatadah: Everything that is intended by it for the sake of Allah is good in reward, meaning what is related to it from the reward and what is related to it from hope, because its owner hopes for the reward of Allah in this world, and he will attain it in the Hereafter.
