Commentary
And We increased them in guidance by granting success and steadfastness. And We bound their hearts and strengthened them with patience in leaving their homelands and comforts, and fleeing with their religion to some mountains. We enabled them to stand for the word of truth and to manifest Islam when they stood before the tyrant, Daqyanus, without concern for him when he reproached them for abandoning the worship of the idol. They said, 'Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth...' A statement that is excessive, and it is the extreme in injustice and distance in it, from 'shat': if it is far. And from it: 'asht'. In grazing and otherwise, 'these' is the subject, and 'our people' is an explanatory apposition. 'And they took' is the predicate, and it is a report in the meaning of denial. 'Why do they not come to him?' Why do they not come to their worship? The addition is omitted with a clear authority, which is a rebuke, because coming with authority to the worship of idols is impossible. It is evidence of the invalidity of imitation, and that there must be proof in religion for it to be correct and established. They have fabricated against Allah falsehood by attributing a partner to Him.
