Commentary
So whoever hopes for the meeting with his Lord, he means by saying that he hopes for a good meeting with his Lord, and that he meets Him with pleasure and acceptance.
And we have explained the meeting. Or: Is he who fears a bad meeting with Him? The meaning of the prohibition against associating partners in worship is that one should not show off in his deeds, and that he should seek only the face of his Lord, purely, without mixing it with anything else. It is said that this was revealed about Jundab ibn Zuhair, who said to the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him: 'I do deeds for Allah, and when I see them, I feel pleased.' He said: 'Indeed, Allah does not accept what has been associated with Him.'
It has been narrated that he said: 'You have two rewards: a reward for what is done in secret, and a reward for what is done openly.' This was narrated by Al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah, and Ibn Hibban and Abu Ya'la, and Al-Bazzar from Abu Huraira. A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I do deeds and when they are seen, I feel pleased.' He said: 'You have two rewards: a reward for what is done in secret, and a reward for what is done openly.' They all narrated it from the hadith of Ibn Sinan, Sa'id ibn Sinan from Harb ibn Abu Thabit from Abu Salih from him. Al-Tirmidhi said that Al-A'mash narrated it from Habib from Abu Salih as a disconnected narration. Ibn Abi Hatim said that the correct opinion with me is that it is disconnected, narrated by Yusuf ibn Asbat from Al-Thawri from Habib.
From Abu Salih from Abu Dharr, and Abu Nu'aym narrated it in Al-Hilya. He said: No one narrated from Abu Dharr except Ibn Asbat. It was narrated by Yahya ibn Yaman from Al-Thawri, who said it was from Ibn Mas'ud. Al-Tabarani narrated it, and Abu Nu'aym said it was narrated by Qabisa from Al-Thawri, who said it was from Al-Mughira ibn Shu'bah, may Allah be pleased with him.
And this is when he intends to be followed. And from him, blessings and peace be upon him: 'Beware of minor shirk.' They said: 'What is minor shirk?' He said: 'Showing off.' This was narrated by Ibn Mardawayh from the route of Isma'il ibn Ja'far from Al-'Ala' from his father from Abu Huraira with this wording, and from this route, Al-Thalabi narrated it. Abu Qasim Al-Talhi narrated it in Al-Targhib. And there is in this regard from Mahmoud ibn Labid. He raised it: 'The thing I fear most for you is minor shirk.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is minor shirk?' He said: 'Showing off.' This was narrated by Ahmad and Al-Daraqutni.
In the strange narrations of Malik and Al-Bayhaqi. In Al-Shu'ab from the narration of Amr ibn Abu Amr ibn Qatada from him. And from Shaddad ibn Aws, he said: 'We used to consider showing off during the time of the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, as minor shirk.' This was narrated by Al-Tabarani and Ibn Mardawayh. In its chain is Ibn Lahi'a.
And from the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him: 'Whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf from its end will have light from his head to his feet, and whoever recites it all will have light from the earth to the sky.' This was narrated by Ahmad and Al-Nasa'i from the hadith of Mu'adh ibn Anas. In its chain is Ibn Lahi'a. Al-Tabarani narrated it from the narration of Rushd ibn Sa'd, both of whom are weak.
And from him, blessings and peace be upon him: 'Whoever recites at his resting place, 'Say, Indeed, I am only a human like you,' will have light shining from his resting place to Mecca, and within that light are angels praying upon him until he stands. And if his resting place is in Mecca, he will have light shining from his resting place to the Bayt Al-Ma'mur, and within that light are angels praying upon him until he awakens.' This was narrated by Ishaq and Al-Bazzar from the narration of Al-Nadr ibn Shumayl. A man from the desert said: 'I heard Sa'id ibn Al-Musayyib narrate from Umar, raising it: 'Whoever recites at night, 'So whoever hopes for the meeting with his Lord,' the verse, will have light from Aden to Mecca, filled with angels.' And Al-Thalabi narrated it from this route. 'And he added that they pray upon him and seek forgiveness for him.' And Ibn Mardawayh narrated it from the hadith of Ubayy ibn Ka'b with the first wording, and its chain has already been mentioned in Al-Imran.
And Allah knows best.
