Commentary
And whoever Allah guides and grants success and kindness to, he is truly the guided one. This is because He only grants kindness to one who knows that kindness benefits him. And whoever He leads astray and forsakes, you will not find for them any allies or supporters. They will be on their faces, as in His saying: 'On the Day they are dragged upon their faces in the Fire.' And it was said to the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him: 'How will they walk on their faces?' He said: 'Indeed, the One who made them walk on their feet is capable of making them walk on their faces.' They will be blind, mute, and deaf, just as they were in this world. They do not perceive nor speak the truth, and they turn away from listening to it. So they will be in the Hereafter likewise: they will not see what pleases their eyes, nor will they hear what delights their ears. And they will not speak what is acceptable from them. And whoever is blind in this world will be blind in the Hereafter. It is possible that they will be gathered, having all their senses, from the place of standing to the Fire after the reckoning. For it has been reported about them in another place that they will read and speak whenever their skins and flesh are consumed and destroyed, and the flames settle down, they will be replaced with others, and it will return to being ablaze. This is as if, when they denied the resurrection after annihilation, Allah made their recompense that He allowed the Fire to consume their parts, to destroy them, and then to recreate them. They will continue in the cycle of destruction and recreation, to increase their regret over their denial of the resurrection, and because it is part of the punishment for the disbeliever. This is indicated in His saying: 'That is their recompense,' until His saying: 'Are we truly going to be resurrected as a new creation?'
