Commentary
It was recited: 'entrance' and 'exit' with both the vowel of the dammah and the fatha: meaning the source. And the meaning of the fatha: 'He has entered me, so He has brought me to an entrance of truth,' meaning: He has brought me to the grave as an entrance of truth: a pleasing entrance with purity and goodness from sins, and He has brought me out of it at the resurrection as a pleasing exit, granted with honor, safe from wrath, as indicated by His mention following the mention of resurrection.
And it was said: It was revealed when he was commanded to migrate, intending the entrance to the city and the exit from Mecca. And it was said: His entering Mecca manifestly by conquest and His exiting from it safe from the polytheists. And it was said: His entering the cave and His exiting from it safely. And it was said: His entering into what he carried of the great matter - which is prophethood - and His exiting from it fulfilling what he was tasked with without negligence. And it was said: obedience. And it was said: It is general in everything that he enters into and associates with from matters and places, a supporting authority that aids me against those who oppose me, or a strong kingdom and might that supports Islam over disbelief, manifesting it over it. So his supplication was answered by His saying: 'And Allah will protect you from the people, for indeed, the party of Allah are the victorious ones,' to manifest it over all religion, 'He will surely make them successors in the land' and His promise to strip the kingdom of Persia and Rome from them, and to grant it to him.
And from him, blessings and peace be upon him: He appointed Attab ibn Asid over the people of Mecca and said: 'Go, for I have appointed you over the people of Allah.' He was severe against the suspicious and gentle with the believer, and he said: 'By Allah, I do not know of anyone who lags behind from the prayer in congregation except that I will strike his neck, for no one lags behind from the prayer except a hypocrite.' The people of Mecca said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you have appointed Attab ibn Asid, a rough Bedouin, over the people of Allah.' So he, blessings and peace be upon him, said: 'I saw in a dream as if Attab ibn Asid came to the gate of Paradise, and he took hold of the door's ring and shook it vigorously until it opened for him, and he entered it. Allah honored Islam through him for his support of the Muslims against those who wish to oppress them, and that is the supporting authority.'
