Commentary
Does your Lord choose you? This is a discourse directed at those who said, 'The angels are the daughters of Allah,' and the hamzah is for denial. It means: Does your Lord specifically choose you in a manner of purity and clarity with the best of children, which are sons, while He does not assign to Himself a share of them, and instead takes the inferior ones, which are daughters? This is contrary to wisdom and what your reason and custom dictate. For servants do not prefer the best and purest of things for themselves, while the worst and least desirable are for their masters. Certainly, you are saying a great saying by attributing children to Him, which is specific to bodies. Then, by preferring yourselves over Him, as you assign to Him what you dislike. Then, by making the angels, who are the highest of Allah's creation and the most noble, inferior to the creation of Allah, as they are females.
