26Give the relative his right, and the needy and the wayfarer. And do not squander recklessly. 27Surely, squanderers are brothers of satans, and the Satan is very ungrateful to his Lord.

And give the relatives their due, meaning those who are not parents among the relatives after recommending them. And they should be given their due: and their due, if they are close relatives like parents and children, and poor individuals unable to earn, and if the man is wealthy: is to spend on them according to Abu Hanifa. Al-Shafi'i does not see spending except on children and parents alone.

And if they are wealthy, or if they are not close relatives: like the sons of uncles, then their due is to maintain ties with them through affection, visiting, good companionship, and support in times of ease and hardship, and similar acts.
