Commentary
From your houses in which you reside, made of stone, clay, tents, and others. And residence is an action meaning what is settled in and to which one turns for a house or familiarity. Houses are the domes and buildings made of leather and mats. You find them light to carry in travel, dismantling, and transportation on the day of your departure and on the day of your stay, meaning the day you depart, it is easy for you to carry and transport them. [Mahamud said: 'What is meant is that it is easy for you to carry and transport them... etc.' Ahmad said: 'The first interpretation is more appropriate, because the manifestation of the favor in their lightness is realized during travel. As for the resident, he is not burdened. How excellent is the saying of Al-Zamakhshari regarding the day of your stay: that what is meant is the lightness of their setup and the ease of that upon them, and Allah knows best.] And on the day you descend and settle in a place, it is not burdensome for you to set them up. Or they are light for you in times of travel and residence alike, provided that the day means the time. And a provision and something to benefit from until a time, until you fulfill your needs from it, or until it wears out and perishes, or until you die. And it was read: 'the day of your departure,' with a pause.
