That is: He made you different in provision. So your provision is better than what He provided for your slaves, who are human like you and your brothers. It should have been that you return the favor of what you have been provided to them, so that you are equal in clothing and food, as it is narrated from Abu Dharr that he heard the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, say: 'They are indeed your brothers, so clothe them with what you wear and feed them with what you eat.' [Agreed upon. And it was narrated by the authors of the Sunan.] After that, he was not seen except with his cloak being his cloak and his garment being his garment, without any difference. [I have not seen it.] Is it by the favor of Allah that they deny? So this was made part of the denial of the favor. It is said that it is a parable struck by Allah for those who made partners with Him. He said to them: 'You do not equate yourselves with your slaves in what I have bestowed upon you, nor do you make them partners in it, nor do you accept that for yourselves. So how do you accept to make My slaves partners with Me?' It is said that the meaning is that the freedmen and the slaves are all provided for by Me. They are equal in My provision, so do not think that the freedmen give anything of their provision to their slaves. That is indeed My provision that I grant to them through their hands. And it was read: 'they deny,' with the two forms, the feminine and the masculine.
