Commentary
The livestock are the eight pairs, and most of it refers to camels. Its establishment is with an implied subject that is explained by the apparent, as in His saying, 'And the moon We have measured.' It is permissible to coordinate it with man, meaning: He created man and the livestock. Then He said, 'He created them for you,' meaning He created them only for you and for your interests, O mankind. And 'warmth' is the name of what provides warmth, just as 'fullness' is the name of what fills. It refers to warmth from clothing made of wool, hair, or fur. And it has been recited: 'dafa,' by dropping the hamzah and placing its movement on the fa. 'And benefits' are its offspring, its milk, and other things. If you say: The precedence of the adverbial phrase in His saying, 'And from it you eat,' indicates exclusivity, while it is permissible to eat from others. I say: Eating from it is the original, which people rely on in their livelihoods. As for eating from others, such as chickens, ducks, and game from land and sea, it is not considered significant and is like a source of enjoyment. It is possible that your sustenance comes from it, because you plow with oxen, and the grains and fruits that you eat come from it. You earn by renting camels, and you sell their offspring, milk, and hides.
