Commentary
Then it indicated His oneness and that there is no deity except Him by what was mentioned, of that which no one else among the creation of the heavens and the earth can accomplish, and the creation of man and what is necessary for him, from the creation of animals for his food, riding, carrying his burdens, and all his needs, and the creation of what they do not know of the types of His creations. And He is exalted above having any partners. And it was recited: "tushrikoon" with the 'taa' and "tushrik" with the 'yaa'. "So if he is a clear adversary" has two meanings. One of them is: So if he is articulate, arguing for himself, resisting the opponents, and clarifying the proof, after he was a drop of sperm, lifeless, without sensation or movement, a sign of His power. The second is: So if he is an adversary to his Lord, denying his Creator, saying: "Who will revive the bones while they are decayed?" This describes man as excessive in audacity and ignorance, and persisting in disbelief of the blessing.
It is said that it was revealed concerning Abu Jahl ibn Khalaf when he brought the decayed bone to the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, and said:
"O Muhammad, do you see that Allah will revive this after it has decayed?" [[It will come in Surah Yasin.]]
