(Makkan, except for three verses at its end, and it is called Surah An-Nahl, and it has one hundred and twenty-eight verses [revealed after Surah Al-Kahf]) 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful'

They were mocking what they were promised regarding the Day of Resurrection or the descent of punishment upon them on the Day of Badr, in mockery and denial of the promise. So it was said to them: The command of Allah has come, which is like the coming that is certain to happen, even if it is awaited for its near occurrence, so do not hasten it. It is narrated that when the verse 'The Hour has drawn near' was revealed, the disbelievers said among themselves: This one claims that the Resurrection has drawn near. So they refrained from some of what they were doing until we see what is going to happen. When the days passed and nothing happened, they said:

We do not see anything. So the verse 'The account of the people has drawn near' was revealed, and they feared and awaited its approach. When the days extended, they said: O Muhammad, we do not see anything of what you warned us about. So the verse 'The command of Allah has come' was revealed, and the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, stood up, and the people raised their heads. Then the verse 'So do not hasten it' was revealed, and they felt reassured. And it was recited: 'You hasten it,' with the pronoun in both forms. Glorified and exalted is He above what they associate with Him. He, the Exalted, disavowed having a partner and that their gods are partners for Him. Or from their associating. On the condition that 'what' is either relative or verbal. If you say: How is this connected to their hastening? I say: Because their hastening was mockery and denial, and that is from associating. And it was recited: 'You associate,' with the pronoun in both forms.
