Regarding 'Urwah ibn az-Zubair about the mockers: they are five men of stature and nobility: Al-Walid ibn al-Mughira, Al-Aswad ibn Abdu Yaghuth, Al-Aswad ibn al-Muttalib, Al-Harith ibn al-Talatil, and Al-Aswad ibn al-Muttalib.

And from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him: they all died before Badr. Gabriel, peace be upon him, said to the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him: I was commanded to take care of them for you. He pointed to the leg of Al-Walid, and an arrow passed by and stuck to his garment. He did not bend down out of pride to take it, so it struck a vein in his ankle and severed it, and he died. He pointed to Al-Harith ibn Al-Aswad, and a thorn entered him, and he said: I was stung, I was stung, and his leg swelled until it became like a millstone, and he died. He indicated the eyes of Al-Aswad ibn al-Muttalib, and he became blind. He pointed to the nose of Al-Harith ibn Qays, and he had pus come out of it and died. And to Al-Aswad ibn Abdu Yaghuth, who was sitting at the base of a tree, he kept banging his head against the tree and hitting his face with thorns until he died.

It was narrated by Al-Tabarani in his two books, and Abu Nu'aym and Al-Bayhaqi in their proofs for them, and Ibn Mardawayh, all from the route of Ja'far ibn Iyas from Sa'id from Ibn Abbas regarding the saying of Allah, the Exalted: 'Indeed, We have taken care of the mockers.' He said: They are Al-Walid ibn al-Mughira, Al-Aswad ibn Abdu Yaghuth, Al-Aswad ibn al-Muttalib, Abu Zum'ah, and Al-Harith ibn 'Aytal as-Sahmi. He said: Gabriel came to him and complained about them to him. He showed him Al-Walid ibn al-Mughira, and Gabriel pointed to his eye. He said: What did you do? He said: I took care of him. Then he narrated the story. He said: As for Al-Walid ibn al-Mughira, he passed by a man from Khuzay'ah who was fletching arrows for him, and it struck his eye and severed it. As for Al-Aswad ibn al-Muttalib, he became blind. As for Al-Aswad ibn Abdu Yaghuth, sores appeared on his head, and he died from them. As for Al-Aswad ibn al-Wa'il, he rode to Ta'if and tied his donkey to a thornbush. A thorn entered the sole of his foot and killed him. As for Al-Harith ibn 'Aytal, he was afflicted with a pain in his belly until his excrement came out of his mouth, and he died from it.]}
