It is recited: 'Tanzil', meaning 'it descends' and 'to descend' in the passive form of 'nazzala'. 'And We send down the angels' is with the 'n' and the angels are in the accusative case except by the truth. It does not descend mixed with wisdom and benefit. There is no wisdom in them coming to you visibly so that you see them and they testify for you about the truth of the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, because at that time you would be believers out of compulsion. An example of this is His saying, 'And We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them except by the truth.' It is said: the truth is revelation or punishment. 'And if' is a response and recompense, because it is a response to them and a recompense for a conditional statement whose estimation is: 'If We had sent down the angels, they would not have been given respite, nor would their punishment have been delayed.'
