Commentary

Al-A'mash recited: O you who has been given the reminder. [His saying 'who has been given the reminder' may refer to him.] It seems that this calling from them is in mockery, as Pharaoh said, 'Indeed, your messenger who has been sent to you is certainly insane.' How can they acknowledge the revelation of the reminder to him and attribute it to insanity? The inversion in their words for mockery and ridicule is a common method. It has come in the Book of Allah in several places, including, 'So give them tidings of a painful punishment. Indeed, you are the forbearing, the rightly guided.' It is often found in the speech of non-Arabs. The meaning is: You are indeed speaking the words of the insane when you claim that Allah has revealed the reminder to you.
