Commentary
Allah is the subject, and the one who created is the predicate. And from the fruits is a statement of provision, meaning: He brought forth with it a provision that is fruits. It is permissible for 'from the fruits' to be the object of 'brought forth,' and 'provision' as a state of the object, or as an accusative on the source of 'brought forth,' because it is in the meaning of provision by His command with His saying 'Be,' constantly in their journey and illuminating them and repelling the darkness, and rectifying what they can rectify of the earth, bodies, and plants. And He has subjected to you the night and the day, alternating as a succession for your livelihood and your rest. The saying 'and your rest' in the dictionaries: rest is sleep, and its origin is comfort, and from it is His saying: 'And We made your sleep a rest.' And He has given you from all that you have asked of Him, 'from' is for partitive, meaning He has given you some of all that you have asked, considering your interests. And it is read 'from all' with tanween, and 'what you have asked' is negation and its place is accusative as a state, meaning: He has given you from all that without asking for it. It is permissible for 'what' to be relative, meaning: He has given you from all that which you needed and your conditions and livelihoods were not rectified except by it, as if you asked Him or requested it with the tongue of the state. You cannot enumerate them, nor can you bear counting them and reaching their end; this is if they intended to count them in general. As for the details, no one can achieve it or know it except Allah. The human is unjust, he wrongs the blessing by neglecting its gratitude, a disbeliever, greatly ungrateful for it. It is said that 'unjust' is in severity, he complains and laments, 'disbeliever' in the blessing, he gathers and withholds. And 'the human' refers to the species, thus encompassing the report of injustice and ungratefulness from those who are found with it.
