They used to criticize him for marriage and having children, as they would say: 'What is this messenger that eats food?' They would suggest to him the signs and deny abrogation. It was said: The messengers before him were humans like him, having spouses and offspring. It was not for them to bring signs by their own opinion nor to bring what was proposed to them. The laws are interests that differ according to the varying conditions and times. For every time, there is a ruling that is prescribed for the servants, meaning: it is imposed on them according to what is required for their reform. Allah erases what He wills, abrogates what He sees fit to abrogate, and establishes in its place what He sees as beneficial to establish, or leaves it un-abrogated. It was said: He erases from the record of the guardians what is neither a good deed nor a bad deed, because they are commanded to write every saying and action, and He establishes its opposite. It was said: He erases the disbelief of the repentant and their sins through repentance, and establishes their faith and obedience. It was said: He erases some of the creatures and establishes some of the humans, as well as other animals, plants, trees, their attributes, and their conditions. The discussion on this matter is extensive. And with Him is the Mother of the Book, the origin of every book, which is the Preserved Tablet, because everything that exists is written in it. And it was recited: 'and He establishes'.
