Commentary
And similarly, We have sent it down. And such a sending down We have commanded in it the worship of Allah and His oneness, and calling to Him and to His religion, and warning of the abode of recompense, a ruling in Arabic, wisdom translated in the tongue of the Arabs, and its position is in the state. They used to call the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, to matters he would agree with them on, including that he should pray towards their qiblah after Allah had turned him away from it. It was said to him: If you follow them in a religion that is nothing but desires and doubts after the knowledge has been established with you by the clear proofs and decisive arguments, may Allah forsake you, and no helper will support you, and may He destroy you, and no protector will shield you from it. This is from the aspect of incitement and stirring, and motivating the listeners to remain steadfast in the religion and to be firm in it, and that no one should falter when faced with doubt after holding onto the proof. Otherwise, the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, was of such strong determination.
