Commentary
He took his brother to him and brought Benjamin close. It is narrated that they said to him: This is our brother, we have brought him to you. He said to them: You have done well and you have succeeded, and you will find that with me. So he received them and honored them, then he hosted them and seated each two of them at a table. Benjamin remained alone and cried, saying: If my brother Joseph were alive, he would have seated me with him. Joseph said: Your brother has remained alone, so he seated him with him at his table and began to share food with him. He said: You are ten, so let each two of you go to a house, and this one has no second, so he can be with me. Joseph spent the night embracing him and smelling his fragrance until morning. He asked him about his children and he said: I have ten sons, I derived their names from the name of a brother of mine who passed away. He said to him: Do you wish for me to be your brother instead of your deceased brother? He said: Who can find a brother like you, but Jacob did not give birth to you nor Rachel. So Joseph cried and went to him and embraced him and said: Indeed, I am your brother Joseph, so do not be saddened and do not grieve over what they used to do to us in the past, for Allah has done good to us and gathered us for good, and do not inform them of what I have informed you. And from Ibn Abbas: He recognized him. And from Wahb: He only said to him: I am your brother instead of your lost brother, so do not be saddened by what you used to face from them of envy and harm, for you are safe from them. It is narrated that he said to him: I will not part from you. He said: You know the grief of my father over me, so if I keep you, his sorrow will increase, and there is no way to do that except that I attribute you to something that is not good. He said: I do not mind, do as you wish. He said: So I will place my sack in your luggage, then I will call out to you that you have stolen it, so that it may prepare for me to return you after you are sent away with them. He said: Do it.
