Commentary
For his young men, and it is read as 'for his youths.' Both are plural forms of 'young man,' like 'brothers' and 'brethren' in 'brother.' 'Fa'lah' indicates a small number. 'Fa'lan' indicates a large number, meaning for his young men who are the weighers, so that they may recognize it, so that they may know the right of returning it and the right of being generous by giving the two replacements when they return to their families and finish their provisions, so that they may return. Perhaps their knowledge of this will prompt them to come back to us. Their merchandise was sandals and leather. It was said that he feared that there would not be enough goods with his father for them to return with. It was also said that it was not seen as generous to take a price from his father and brothers. It was said that he knew their faith would compel them to return the merchandise; they do not deem it permissible to keep it, so they will return for its sake. It was said that the meaning of 'so that they may return' is that they may return it.
