Commentary

It is said that he was chosen and made special, when he made it pure for himself and specific to him. When he spoke to him and witnessed from him what he did not expect, he said: O truthful one, today you are with us in a position of honor and status, trustworthy and entrusted with everything. It is narrated that the Messenger came to him and said: I love the king. He left the prison and prayed for his family: O Allah, turn the hearts of the righteous towards them and do not let the news be concealed from them, for they are the most knowledgeable of people regarding the news in events.

And it was written on the door of the prison: These are the abodes of trials and the graves of the living, the gloating of enemies, and the testing of friends. Then he bathed and cleansed himself from the filth of the prison, and wore new clothes.

When he entered upon the king, he said: O Allah, I ask You for Your goodness from his goodness, and I seek refuge in Your might and power from his evil. Then he greeted him and prayed for him in Hebrew. The king said: What is this tongue? He replied: It is the tongue of my forefathers. The king spoke in seventy tongues, so he spoke to him in them and he responded in all of them. The king was astonished and said: O truthful one, I wish to hear my dream from you. He said: I saw cows and described their colors, their conditions, and the place from which they emerged, and he described the ears of grain as they were in the form that the king saw, not omitting a single letter from it. He said to him: It is your right to gather food in the granaries, and people will come to you from all directions to buy from you, and treasures will gather for you that have not been gathered for anyone before you.
