And how many of the people, he means by saying the generality, like his saying: 'But most of the people do not believe.' And from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him. He meant the people of Mecca, that is, they are not believers, even if you strive and exert yourself for their belief due to their determination on disbelief and their obstinacy. And what you ask them about what you speak to them and remind them, that it may bring you benefit and advantage, as is given to the bearers of the hadiths and news. It is nothing but a reminder, an admonition from Allah for the worlds in general, and an encouragement to seek salvation through the tongue of a messenger from His messengers.
