Commentary
'From' in 'from the kingdom' and 'from the interpretation of the hadiths' is for partitive meaning. This is because he was given only a portion of the kingdom of this world, or a portion of the kingdom of Egypt. And part of the interpretation is: 'You are my guardian; you are the one who takes care of me with blessings in both abodes.' And he connects the transient kingdom with the everlasting kingdom. 'Cause me to die as a Muslim' is a request for death in a state of Islam, and for him to be sealed with goodness and the best outcome, as Jacob said to his sons: 'And do not die except while you are Muslims.' It may also be a wish for death, as it was said: 'And join me with the righteous from my forefathers,' or in general. And regarding Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz: Maimun ibn Mehran spent the night with him and saw him crying a lot and asking for death. He said to him: 'Allah has done much good through you: you have revived the Sunnah and abolished innovations, and in your life there is goodness and comfort for the Muslims.' He replied: 'Should I not be like the righteous servant when Allah made his eyes rejoice and gathered his affairs for him? He said: 'Cause me to die as a Muslim and join me with the righteous.' If you ask: 'What is the reason for the establishment of 'Creator of the heavens'?' I say it is a description of His saying 'Lord,' like saying 'the brother of Zayd is handsome in face,' or it is for calling.
