Commentary
The evening of Lot was a distress and a tightness of chest. His saying 'a tightness of chest' in the dictionaries means: it is said that one feels tightness in the matter when one cannot endure it or is unable to cope with it. The origin of 'tightness' is actually the extension of the hand, as if you mean: I extended my hand to him but could not reach him. He feared for them because he thought they were human, and he was afraid of the wickedness of his people and that he would be unable to resist and defend them. It has been narrated that Allah, glorified and exalted is He, said to them: do not destroy them until Lot testifies against them four testimonies. So when he walked with them, taking them to his house, he said to them: did the news of this village not reach you? They said: what is their news? He said: I bear witness by Allah that it is the worst village on earth in terms of deeds, saying this four times. They entered with him into his house and no one knew of it, but his wife went out and informed her people about them. It is said: a difficult day, and 'asbasa' if it was severe, from the saying: 'asbahu', if it was tightened.
