Commentary
We will deliver to them their rewards for their deeds, complete and full, without any reduction in this world. This refers to what they are provided with in terms of health and sustenance. It is said that they are the people of showing off. It is said to the reciters among them: I wanted it to be said: So-and-so is a reciter, and it has been said. And for the one who connects with the Most Merciful and gives charity: I acted so that it would be said, and it has been said. And for the one who fought and was killed: I fought so that it would be said: So-and-so is brave, and it has been said. And from Anas ibn Malik: They are the Jews and Christians. If they give to a beggar or connect a relative, their reward for that is hastened with an increase in sustenance and health in the body. It is said that they are those who fought among the hypocrites with the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, and they were given shares in the spoils of war. And it is read: 'yuf' with a 'ya' indicating that the action is for Allah, the Exalted. And 'tuwfa' for them is read with a 'ta', in the passive form. And in the reading of Al-Hasan: 'nufaa', with the lightening and the affirmation of the 'ya', because the condition occurred in the past, as in His saying: 'He says: My wealth is not absent, nor is it forbidden.' The corrector.] And their deeds in it were rendered void, and what they did in the Hereafter was void, meaning: It had no reward because they did not intend it for the Hereafter; rather, they intended it for this world. They have been given what they wanted, and what they were doing was false. That is, their deeds in themselves were void because they did not act for a correct purpose, and false deeds have no reward. And it is read: 'and it was rendered void' as an action. And from Asim: 'and void' in the accusative, and there are two interpretations: that 'what' is indefinite and it is in the accusative with 'they do', meaning: 'and void', that is, what falsehood they were doing. And it can mean the source as in: 'and the voiding of what they were doing.'
