Not cut off, but extended to no end, like His saying: 'They have a reward that is not interrupted.'

When he narrated the stories of the idol worshippers and mentioned what punishment befell them and what torment was prepared for them, he said:

'So do not be in doubt about what these people worship.' That is: do not doubt, after what has been revealed to you of these stories, in the bad outcome of their worship and their exposure to what befell their likes before them, as a consolation for the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, and a promise of revenge against them and a warning for them. Then he said: 'They worship nothing except as their forefathers worshipped.' He means that their state in polytheism is like the state of their fathers, with no difference between the two states. You have been informed of what befell their fathers, so a similar fate will befall them. This is a resumption, meaning it explains the prohibition against doubt. The 'what' in 'what they worship' and 'as' can be either a source or a relative pronoun, meaning: from their worship, and as their worship. Or from what they worship of idols, and like what they worship from them. 'And indeed, We will surely give them their share.' That is: their portion of the punishment.

[Mahmoud said: 'That is: their portion of the punishment, and the term
