Commentary
The position of the 'kaf' is in the nominative, its meaning being: and like that is the taking of your Lord. And the accusative is for those who recited: 'And thus took your Lord,' in the form of a verb. And it was recited: 'When the towns were taken while they were wrongdoers,' which is a state of the towns. The taking is painful and severe, and it is difficult for those who are taken. This is a warning about the grave consequence of wrongdoing for every people of a wronging town, from the disbelievers of Mecca and others, indeed for everyone who wrongs another or himself by a sin he commits. So, every sinner should be cautious of the painful and severe taking of his Lord, and hasten to repent and not be deceived by the delay.
