Commentary
He has prepared for them a place of truth, a good and pleasing abode, which is Egypt and the Levant. They did not differ in their religion, nor did they divide into sects, except after they had read the Torah and acquired knowledge of the religion of truth. They were required to remain steadfast in it and to have a united word. They knew that differing in it would lead to division from it. It is said that it is the knowledge of Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon him, and the differing of the Children of Israel, who are the People of the Book, in their differences regarding his attributes and descriptions, whether he is or is not. After knowledge and clarification came to them that he is, they did not doubt it. As Allah, glorified and exalted is He, said: 'Those to whom We gave the Book recognize him as they recognize their own sons.'
