Commentary
And do not let their saying sadden you. It has been read: 'And do not let it sadden you,' from the one who saddens him by their saying, their denial of you, their threats, and their consultation in planning your destruction and nullifying your matter, and all that they speak regarding you. Indeed, all honor belongs to Allah. This is a new statement meaning an explanation, as if it were said: 'Why should I not be saddened?' It was said, 'Indeed, all honor belongs to Allah.' That is, dominance and power are in the possession of Allah entirely. No one possesses anything of it, neither they nor others. He overcomes them and grants you victory over them. Allah has decreed: 'I will surely overcome, I and My messengers.' Indeed, We will support Our messengers. Abu Haywah read: 'That honor,' with an open vowel, meaning: 'Because honor' as a clear explanation. And whoever made it a substitute for their saying and then denied it, the denial is in its derivation, not in what was denied of the reading of it. He is the Hearing, the Knowing. He hears what they say and knows what they plot and decide upon. And He is equal to them in that.
