Commentary
The allies of Allah are those who take Him as a protector through obedience and He takes them as honored. This is explained in His saying: 'Those who have believed and were fearing Allah.' So, their taking Him as a protector is the good news for them in this worldly life and in the Hereafter.
So, His taking them as a protector. And from Sa'id ibn Jubair, the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, was asked: Who are the allies of Allah?
He said: 'They are those who remember Allah upon seeing them.' [It was narrated by Ibn Abi Shaybah from the narration of Ash'ath ibn Ishaq from Ja'far ibn Abi al-Mughira from him, and by Ibn Mardawayh from the path of Yahya al-Hammami from Ya'qub al-Sahmi from Ja'far likewise. Al-Nasa'i and al-Bazzar also reported it from the narration of Muhammad ibn Sa'id ibn Sabik from Ya'qub, mentioning Ibn Abbas. It was said: The Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, was asked about the allies of Allah, and he said: 'Those who, when they see [them], remember Allah.' Al-Bazzar said: It was narrated by others than Muhammad from Ya'qub without mentioning Ibn Abbas.] This means their demeanor and appearance. And from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him:
The humility and tranquility. It was said: They are those who love each other for the sake of Allah. And from Umar, may Allah be pleased with him: I heard the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, say: 'Indeed, among the servants of Allah are some who are neither prophets nor martyrs, and the prophets and martyrs envy them on the Day of Resurrection for their position with Allah.' They said: O Messenger of Allah, inform us who they are and what are their deeds? Perhaps we may love them. He said: 'They are a people who love each other for the sake of Allah, without any kinship between them nor wealth that they exchange. By Allah, indeed their faces will be light, and they will be upon pulpits of light. They do not fear when people fear, nor do they grieve when people grieve.' Then he recited the verse: [It was narrated by Ishaq ibn Rahawayh, al-Tabari, Abu Nu'aym in the beginning of al-Hilya, and al-Bayhaqi in al-Shu'ab from the narration of Jarir from 'Imarah ibn Ghaziyah from Abu Zur'ah from Umar with it. Al-Bayhaqi said: Abu Zur'ah from Umar is disconnected. It was narrated by Ibn Mardawayh from another source mentioning Abu Hurairah between Abu Zur'ah and Umar, and it was narrated by al-Nasa'i and Ibn Hibban from another source from Abu Zur'ah from Abu Hurairah. Umar was not mentioned. There are also reports from Anas narrated by Ibn 'Adi and al-'Aqili and al-Bayhaqi in al-Shu'ab also in the tenth of it, and it includes Waqid ibn Salamah from Yazid al-Raqashi. Both are weak. And from Abu al-Darda, narrated by al-Tabarani, and it includes Faraj ibn Fadalah who is weak. And from Abu Malik al-Ash'ari, narrated by 'Abd al-Razzaq and through him by al-Tabarani and al-Bayhaqi, and it includes Shahr ibn Hawshab. And from Ibn 'Umar, narrated by al-Hakim from the narration of Ziyad ibn Khaythamah from him. And from al-'Ala ibn Ziyad, disconnected. It was narrated by Ibn Abi Shaybah in his Musannaf.] 'Those who have believed' is either in the accusative or nominative as praise or as a description of the allies, or as a subject and predicate for them is the good news, and the good news in this world is what Allah has promised the believers who fear Him in various places in His Book. And from the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him: 'It is the good dream that a Muslim sees or it is seen for him.' [It was narrated by al-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, al-Hakim, al-Bayhaqi, Ahmad, and Ishaq from the path of Abu Salamah from 'Abadah ibn al-Samit who said: I asked the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, about His saying: 'They are the good news in this worldly life.' He said: 'It is the good dream that a believer sees or is seen for him.' The narrators are trustworthy, but it is considered weak, for Abu Salamah did not hear from 'Abadah. It was also narrated by al-Tirmidhi and al-Hakim from Abu Salamah who said: I was informed about 'Abadah. There is another route with Ibn Mardawayh from the narration of Hamid ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Mursi from 'Abadah. Al-Tirmidhi also narrated it, as well as Ahmad, Ishaq, Ibn Abi Shaybah, Abu Ya'la, al-Tabarani, and al-Bayhaqi from the path of 'Ata ibn Yasir from a man from the people of Egypt: I asked Abu al-Darda about the saying of Allah, the Exalted: 'They are the good news in this worldly life.' He said: I asked the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, about it, and he said: 'It is the good dream that a believer sees or is seen for him.' Some of them added: 'And in the Hereafter, Paradise.' Ibn Abi Hatim said from his father: This man is not known. And there are reports from Ibn Mas'ud narrated by Ibn Mardawayh with the wording: 'I asked the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him,' and he mentioned something similar to the hadith of 'Abadah. And from Jabir ibn Abdullah ibn Rabab, narrated by al-Bazzar and Ibn 'Adi and from the path of al-Kalbi from Abu Salih from him, raised in the saying of Allah, the Exalted: 'They are the good news.'
- The hadith. And from Jabir, Ibn Mardawayh narrated it from the narration of Jabir al-Ju'fi from Abu Ja'far from Jabir. He said: This Jabir is the son of Rabab. Thus he said, but he was mistaken. And it has been narrated from another source from al-A'mash from Abu Sufyan from Jabir from Abu Huraira, which al-Tabari and Ibn Mardawayh narrated from the narration of Ammar ibn Muhammad from al-A'mash from Abu Salih from him. It was said: Ammar is the only one who narrated it. However, al-Nasa'i narrated it in the Kunya from the narration of Ishaq ibn Abdul Rahman ibn Umar: that al-A'mash informed him, and he mentioned it. And he said: Abu Ishaq, I do not know him. And the hadith is incorrect. And from Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As, al-Nasa'i and Abu Ya'la narrated it from the narration of Durraj from Abdul Rahman ibn Jubair from him. And he added: 'The vision is a part of forty-nine parts of prophethood.' And from him, blessings and peace be upon him: 'Prophethood has gone, and the glad tidings remain.' And it was said: It is the love of the people for him and the good mention. And from Abu Dharr: I said to the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him: 'A man does deeds for Allah and the people love him.' He said: 'That is a quick glad tidings for the believer.' [Muslim narrated it with the wording: 'The people love him and praise him for it.'] And from Ata: They have the glad tidings at death, the angels come to them with mercy. Allah, the Exalted, said: 'The angels descend upon them: Do not fear and do not grieve, and rejoice in Paradise.' And as for the glad tidings in the Hereafter, the angels greet them as Muslims, giving them glad tidings of victory and honor, and what they see of the whiteness of their faces and the giving of the scrolls in their right hands and what they read from it, and other glad tidings. 'There is no changing of the words of Allah.' There is no alteration of His sayings nor breaking of His promises, as His saying: 'The saying will not be changed with Me.' And this indicates that they are given glad tidings in both abodes, and both sentences are an interruption.
