Commentary
Allah the Exalted informs of the state of creation on the Day of Judgment, that He will summon every people along with their leader and guide to the straight path, who are the prophets and their deputies. Each nation will be presented, with their prophet who called them, and their deeds will be laid before the Book which the prophet invited them to—whether they conformed to it or not. Thus, they will be divided into two groups: {those whose Book is placed in their right hand}: because they followed their guide to a straight path and adhered to their Book, so their good deeds multiplied and their evils diminished {those will read their Book}: with joy and delight as they see therein what rejoices and comforts them {and they will not be wronged by so much as a hair}: of the good deeds they performed.
{72} {And those who in this world were}: blind {to the truth}, having neither accepted it nor sought guidance, but followed misguidance {they will in the Hereafter be blind}: to the way to Paradise as they were blind in this world, {and more astray}: for recompense is according to deeds, as you are judged, so you will be judged. In this verse is evidence that every nation is summoned to their own religion and Book, and whether they acted upon it or not, and that they are not held accountable for the law of a prophet they were not commanded to follow, and that Allah does not punish anyone except after the burden of proof is upon them and they have transgressed it. Also, that the people of goodness are given their Books in their right hands, and they attain great joy and delight, while the people of evil are the opposite, and they are unable to read their Books due to the intensity of their grief, sorrow, and anguish."}
